Day 274 - Race day

Alcohol Units: nope
Running Units: 13.1 miles
Other exercise Units: FULL DAY AT DISNEYLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stretching Units: yup yup yup

I'll stagger the race posts for the entire family throughout this week. Today will be my day.

Race morning starting much like the marathon - me waking up and thinking that the ungodly wake up hour is enough to keep me from ever doing this again - of course why am I doing this again then???

We made it to the race course and were surrounded by Mickeys, Minnies, Tinkerbells and other costumed runners. I immediately realized we need costumes and had failed miserably by showing up in regular clothes.

We went to a less crowded corral that I thought would be at the end of the pack but they got a bit confused and we started earlier than most.

The start line had fire shooting out the top. Only at DisneyLand I swear.

As soon as we started I knew I was in trouble. The race as a whole was rough for me but it was fun. Super super super fun course for most of it. Inside the park we had all the characters out with music and dancing. Outside the park we had cheerleaders (all of whom I gave the evil eye to for keeping me up even though only 1 of the 20 or so groups was the culprit - don't care guilty by association and perkiness levels!)

Anyways I learned a few things that I'd like to share with the world.
  1. Not training for a 1/2 marathon and doing it is equally as hard as training for a full marathon and doing that. Lesson: train before going out for a race of this magnitude
  2. Training only in cool 70 degree weather along the beach is fine if you only race in that weather. The weather was HUMID and I did not know what do. Lesson: it's good train in a variety of climates.
  3. When your body has been exhausted for weeks (not a new complaint) it may be telling you something. Running a 1/2 marathon (or attempting to) will not solve that problem.
  4. Can I just say #1 again
Can't remember the others on my list. I had a whole list in my head throughout the race. It is funny that this was my first 1/2. Did a full before the 1/2. Now the next one I need to train. Remind me I said this.

MUST TRAIN FOR RACES

So after all that my feet were not happy (toe nails still haven't fallen off).

What to do?

Finally eat? Eventually

Take a nap? Try again

Shower? Oh yes

Go to Disneyland for the REST of the day? YES!

Oh my the exhaustion. The pain. The fatigue. D land is no where you want to spend the day after the race. Add a 3 year old who decides you should carry her and a 5 year old who needs to hold your hand at the same time.

After this day I slept WELL.
